I was hired to work with Award-winning Spanish director Jorge Laplace to create the title intro and end sequence for his documentary film “Equipo D: Los Códigos Olvidados” (Team D: The Forgotten Codes) for TVE (the national public-service television broadcaster in Spain).

Synopsis Equipo D:

During World War II, a secret battle was fought to decipher the Nazi codes issued by the Enigma machine. A game of chess among the brightest minds of the time, whose outcome was vital to solving the greatest war conflict of the twentieth century and the fate of Europe. In this exciting fight, the role of Team D, formed by republican Spaniards in exile, was as decisive as it was unknown.

My approach to begin this project was to start playing with key words like Franco, Spanish Civil War, Exile, Destruction, Death, Codes, Intelligence Services, Discovery to conceptualize what images and features to use as a starting point for the art direction. After talking with the director we agreed to use texture, darkness, shadow and contrast in the title sequence. For the font I used a minimalist, classic-modern Sans Serif.
